NEWS FROM LOWBURN FERRY
Our harvest came in late April – a dream vintage from a fantastic summer. The drought that affected the rest of the country over the summer made for perfect growing conditions here in Central Otago, and our fruit came in very clean, with medium to small berries. Although its very early days, Jean and Roger did a barrel tasting recently with winemaker Pete Bartle, and we were all very impressed with the intensity of flavour already in our 2013 wines. Six Nations Wine Challenge:
To be judged next month in Sydney, this is the only wine show in the world where the wines come in exclusively by invitation from the Judges. New World wines from Australia, NZ, Chile, Argentina, South Africa and USA are represented. "Because the wines are all selected by each of the judges the standard of wine quality must surely be higher than any competition of this size in the world", says Bob Campbell MW, who invited us to submit Lowburn Ferry Home Block Pinot Noir 2010. Who's Batting:
From New Delhi's "Mail Today" 25.05.13 “WHAT does an international cricketer do after hanging up his boots? Become a coach or a commentator, or, like Chennai Super Kings guru and former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming discover the spending power of the Indian market. Fleming has padded up as the brand ambassador and director of a Kiwi food marketing company, QualityNZ, whose portfolio extends from Manuka honey to Pacific King salmon, South Island lobster, lamb, artesian water and apples…” read the full article here ![]() A recent photo taken in Auckland shows famous Indian Chef, Ritu Delmia cooking NZ food with NZ MasterChef winner Nadia Lim. QualityNZ was invited to share time with Ritu & Nadia as they filmed an episode for India's NDTV.
Vintage 2013: We acknowledge the assistance of friends and family who helped with our harvest and in particular Ted and Rhonda who came over from Melbourne for a "working holiday" picking and helping in our "camp kitchen" in the vineyard, and educating us on some great Aussie wines! We harvested 16.67 tonnes from the Lowburn Ferry Home Block vineyard over 5 days – Roger's claim to fame was his pre-harvest crop estimate was within 15kg of the final total! (He must have spent days out there counting every bunch, we think!)
Central Otago Pinot Celebration 2014:
Keep warm, enjoy the winter season or summer if you're on the other side of the world… Roll on spring…
