NEWS FROM LOWBURN FERRY
Vintage 2012 is all done and dusted - we harvested the grapes at Lowburn Ferry 15th-19th April and the wine is all now in the barrel where it will be for about 10-11 months. After a challenging spring (a late frost which affected one of our blocks), good even flowering and then a cooler and dampish summer, the weather gods treated us with a spectacular "Indian Summer" which allowed the grapes to ripen nicely with lovely flavours and lower than usual Brix levels. The result should be some lovely wines. The bird nets have all been collected in, snow is way down on the mountains, and we've started the winter task of pruning - although we are awaiting the return of Lynne from her holiday in France to really get things moving!
We were recently visited by our Japanese importers from a lovely new establishment called "New Zea Platform" in Tokyo where they feature NZ wines, food and culture. Pictured is a lamb dish created by manager Yuji Hashimoto and featured on the menu there. Closer to home we are thrilled to have Lowburn Ferry pinot noir in Queenstown's hottest new restaurant - "Rata" - launched last month by MasterChef New Zealand judge Josh Emett and business partner Fleur Caulton. Located discreetly away from the hustle and bustle of Queenstown tucked away alongside heritage buildings Rata has quickly become one of THE places to dine in Queenstown. Emett, who is a four star Michelin star chef worked for more than a decade alongside the internationally renowned Gordon Ramsay, said he is excited about coming back to New Zealand and particularly Queenstown to set up the venture. As a small family wine producer we are very proud to see our wines being appreciated and served in these beautiful environments - its really quite humbling and makes us all feel that much more dedicated to improving our products and supporting our trade customers.
Jean is away to Australia on a marketing trip next week but doesn't expect to get her photo taken.
